Fiesta de Derecho

Yesterday was a regular day of classes with a fun twist!
That's the paella stand. There was a huge paella pan--several feet wide!

Every facultad, like colleges within a university, has a party one day during the academic year. Facultad de Derecho (Law School) had theirs yesterday! Students from all campuses, including the Tourism School, come to the party. Lucky for me, the Law School is located on the same campus where I have my Geography classes.

I got there an hour before my class started because I had an hour break after a tourism class. I couldn't find any of the Spaniards from my class, but luckily I ran into Josh. He let me borrow his pañuelo (a red hankerchief you buy to get beer and paella) so I could grab a beer.

Yes, this is a school function.

We hung out and I tried a bite of his paella--holy crap, so good! Then some more friends showed up and we all hung out for a bit before class.

I thought about skipping my next class, but I went just to see how many other people showed up. The first two rows of the classroom were filled--maybe a quarter of the class came. It was hilarious listening to the bumping music outside. I knew almost all of the songs (mostly English) so I couldn't help but sing along in my head. Plus, the Russian Revolution doesn't exactly pique my interest.

The Spanish students have definitely warmed up to me! Some of them are even reading these posts (they tell me). I was so scared in the beginning that I wouldn't make any Spanish friends, but I think they are realizing that I am not an obnoxious American after all...right?

We had another family dinner at Jenn's apartment. We watched Despicable Me and ate popcorn!
Omelettes for dinner!
