Cafe Ficciones

Movies for rent, all in Spanish
Today was a chill, recovery day after this weekend's trip to Granada (I'll blog about it later).
After turismo sostenible, I met up with Jenn and Natalia to make fajitas. I also made lemonade because Jenn had a bowl of them that she wasn't going to use...it was tricky trying to get the right balance of not-too-much-sugar and not-too-sour, heh.

At night, I went to Cafe Ficciones to watch "Todo sobre mi madre", an Almodóvar film (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/all_about_my_mother/). If you have seen Volver, another of his films, you would recognize the dark, and somewhat depressing, nature of his films. Last year at NCSU, I took a Spanish cinema class and was able to study Almodóvar's style. I noticed the same bold, colorful film style, mostly-female characters, intense emotional themes, and plot twists as Volver.

Our movie is at the top!

Also, I am in love with Cafe Ficciones. The walls are covered in movie quotes, drawings, movie posters, and art (currently: Star Wars twists on classic paintings). We browsed through the selection of movies available for rent; they're sorted by nationality. I can't wait to rent some Spanish films!!
